Simple Cups: Disposable K-Cups Review
I’m a coffee fiend. In fact, we have not only a regular coffee pot, but a Keurig as well. It might be a little over the top, but I take my coffee VERY seriously. The Keurig is dual function though, as kiddos use it for hot water for tea, hot chocolate or iced tea.
I was recently asked to review Simple Cups - Disposable Cups for Use in Keurig Brewers. I was excited, because everyone knows that K-Cups are pricy. No matter how convenient they are, they can’t touch the low cost of just brewing a regular pot of coffee in the good ol’ Mr. Coffee.
What I received was a box containing 50 sets of cup, filter, and lid with an “easy close stand” and an instructional sheet. Didn’t seem like it was rocket science to put them together and make it happen. You put the cup into the stand, fill it to 90% with coffee grounds, pop the lid on and you’re good to go.
Now, here’s where things start to get a little bit hairy and sad.
Firstly, my Keurig was not a happy camper breaking through the tough plastic lid of the Simple Cup. I had to use force I felt might be detrimental to my delicate Keurig needle. The hole in the bottom of the cup was roughly looking the same — not a neat hole, more of a Hulk-smash of plastic. Which leads us to…
My coffee was full of grounds, presumably from the giant hole crunched in the bottom of the cup. I’m not sure the anatomy of an actual authentic K-Cup, but I feel like whatever the mechanism is, it works and this didn’t have it. After I kind of swooshed around a bit of paper towel to get the grounds out, I tasted the coffee to see if there was redemption. Unfortunately, there was not. It was weak.
I really hate having to write poor reviews of things. When I get them, I want very much for them to meet my expectations, but it is with regret that I inform you these did not. It’s a good premise - cost saving AND they’re recyclable. However, I’m just too much of a coffee snob to overlook the flaws. Feel free to check out Simple Cups website and make your own decision. They do carry other products! You can also find them on Facebook and Pinterest.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
