Michael Todd True Organics Review

I’m only slightly addicted to skin care and beauty products. I figure, if I’m gonna be stuck in mom jeans, I might as well look GOOD from the neck up. With super sensitive, dry skin, it’s hard for me to find a combination of products that works well for me. As I’ve complained about in the past, my skin is now acting like an angry teenager who had her cell phone taken away. Every time I think I have it under control.. BOOM. So, yeah. The problem with a lot of products is that they go on nice, but then I start feeling the itching and the burning and kind of want to scrub my skin off to make it stop.

Recently I was given the opportunity to try out an entire suite of products from Michael Todd True Organics tailored to my particular skin type and problem areas. That alone was fantastic — being able to put together a dream team JUST for my weird face. Those of you who have read my reviews already know I can be a little bit skeptical, but I was pleasantly surprised by what I tried out.

In case you’re unaware of the brand, Michael Todd True Organics mission is to make the most effective, results oriented organic solutions for healthy, radiant skin. They use as much organics as possible without compromising performance and never use parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, artificial coloring or synthetic fragrance to avoid health concerns. They’re also cruelty free – so, bonus to the bunnies!

Charcoal Detox Mask – Detoxifying Facial Mask

The Hype: If you thought that masks were only for mature skin types…think again!  The key to clearer skin is to unclog pores, reduce bacteria and nourish, tone and heal on and below the skin’s surface.

My Take: Apparently charcoal is awesome. I had no idea! This mask somewhat reminded me of paint, in both scent and texture (but it could be I have painting on the brain lately) — it’s not a nasty smell, just not exactly what I was expecting. However, whatever the slightly weird scent is – it’s worth smelling it for a little bit. This mask appears to completely suck all the icky stuff out of your face. My skin not only felt smoother, but it just LOOKED healthier. I’m always concerned when something says “mask” that I’m going to end up with super dried out tight skin (ask me about my aztec clay debacle sometime!) but this didn’t do that at all. It was the benefits of a mask without any of the overwhelming feeling of needing to moisturize immediately.

Organic Cranberry Toner – Antioxidant Hydrating Toner

The Hype: An organic toner to finish off where your cleanser began. Antioxidant cranberries and vitamins fight bacteria and environmental damage. Works to restore the skin’s proper pH without the drying effects of alcohol leaving your skin looking and feeling cool and refreshed.

My Take: Mmmm, this is a lovely toner! It smells so good you kind of want to break out the vodka and make some mixed drinks! (Please do not drink the toner.) So, I’m not a huge fan of toners because I have such overwhelmingly dry skin to begin with, it seems like a really bad idea to add another drying element to my skincare routine. HOWEVER! This didn’t dry out my skin at all. It felt soft and lovely and just amazingly clean. I had no redness, itchiness or irritation and it didn’t leave any weird residue on my skin either, which is bueno.

Concentrated C Serum – Antioxidant Serum Moisturizer

The Hype: This special antioxidant facial serum uses organic bilberry, orange, lemon and cranberry and extracts of red raspberries and wild blueberries in combination with concentrated Vitamins C and E. Penetrates quickly to soothe and add moisture back to dry, dehydrated and irritated skin. Helps to repair UV induced sun damage and reverse signs of premature aging to the skin.

My Take: This was the only thing out of the group that I wasn’t over the moon about. It smells FANTASTIC, but unfortunately I didn’t find it as hydrating as it had hyped. It is also not really what I’d think of when I hear “serum” — this is a cream/lotion consistency. I tried it both in the morning  for the day, and at night after a shower before bed, and I just found the hydration to be lacking. Again, this is just MY wacky skin, so your results may vary! It has a very nice consistency, and didn’t cause any sensitive skin issues, but it just wasn’t what I was looking for.

Honey And Oat – Gentle Deep-Pore Cleanser

The Hype: Start your routine with this ultra-hydrating sweet-lemony honey and oats facial cleanser in a base of refreshing aloe vera juice.  Gentle deep pore cleansing effectively removes makeup and impurities in one simple step and you’ll love how the honey puts back needed moisture that other cleansers fail to deliver.

My Take: When I heard “honey and oat” I was intrigued — picturing a bowl of oatmeal coming out of the dispenser (ok, ok, I spend too much time with children – I get it!) I was kind of “ho-hum” thinking this was going to just be another boring cleanser. NOT SO PEOPLE! NOT SO! This is the goopiest most wonderful cleanser. It truly does have the consistency of honey, and it lathers up nicely. Again, these people must know what they’re doing with the ingredients because after I washed my face with this it truly felt like my skin had been detoxed. It’s like the honey just sucks it all out of your pores and leaves nothing but clean happy skin. I had no redness or sensitivity issues, but it did make me want to go eat a big bowl of oatmeal afterwards. Your results may vary.
