More subscription boxes abound! This time, I’ll be reviewing the Goodies Company May subscription box. This one is ALL FOOD! For only $7 a month (as a founder, hurry and get locked in before the prices change!) and free shipping, it’s really worth checking out. I’m not using my normal star ranking here, because a lot of tastes are subjective.
The Hype: Bronco Bob’s Roasted Mango Chipotle Sauce is perfect for grilling dipping and appetizers! This all natural sauce has a sweet yet spicy flavor and has no preservatives.
My Take: I used this on some chicken I was throwing on the grill. It has a fantastic sweet and spicy flavor.
Zico Pure Premium Coconut Water
The Hype: ZICO is loaded with 5 electrolytes: sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium and phosphorus. These work together to support your body with what it needs to stay hydrated and to help it perform at its best.
My Take: To be honest, I had no idea what to do with this. It said serve cold, so I stuck it in the fridge. I wasn’t too excited about the taste straight from the carton, but after searching a little I realized it would be great in smoothies. So instead of my normal almond milk, I used the coconut water - and it was delicious and refreshing.
Beanitos Black Bean Chipotle BBQ Chips
The Hype: Crunch into the distinctive BBQ and smoky Chipotle spiciness of Beanitos Black Bean Chipotle BBQ chips! These chips are Always Corn Free and made with non-GMO ingredients like whole black beans, and whole grain rice.
My Take: I can’t give you the opinion of my entire family on these, because I sat in the corner snarfing them down Golem-style. No, really, they are THAT amazing. They are a bit spicy, but the spice isn’t immediate - it kind of hits the back of your throat as an aftershock. These definitely made it on my “to-buy” list for my next grocery run.
The Hype: Just the right amount of crunch with a light unrefined seal salt seasoning added. They are vegan, gluten free, have no cholesterol or Trans fats.
My Take: I have never eaten pumpkin seeds before. There, I said it. What seems to be a rite of adolescent snacking, I missed. Maybe it’s because any of the pumpkin seeds I’ve seen were still in the shells - and it seemed like a lot of fuss to eat them (that’s also how I feel about pistachios, if you’re wondering). These guys are already shelled, so it’s easy to dump them into your hand and then, of course, cram them into your mouth. Which I did. A lot. I really need to work on my sharing.
The Hype: Just the right amount of spice and garlic, this guacamole is sure to be a hit with everyone. Real homemade guacamole taste! You would never add chemicals or preservatives to your guacamole dip, so we don’t either.
My Take: I like guacamole. I like homemade guacamole. I do not like dealing with fresh avocados because they never seem to be ripe when I want to make guacamole. I have tried a kabillion (that’s a scientific quantity) different commercial guacamoles, and this is the only one I like. It tastes fresh, it tastes good, and they even have an organic version available now. Win! (I do not recommend dipping your chipolte bean chips into guacamole. Just sayin’.)
Numi Organic Tea - Moroccan Mint
The Hype: Our organic Moroccan Mint, known as “nana mint,” flourishes in North Africa. With a flavor as light and lively as a newly picked leaf, it has a sweet spearmint flavor that is refreshing and soothing any time of day.
My Take: I’m not normally a tea person, and when I drink tea I reach for the Earl Grey. However, this intrigued me as I really do love mint. This was so lovely! It’s light and delicate, not cloying and mouthwash-y. My daughter is the real tea snob and she tasted it and requested more for herself.
California Olive Ranch Extra Virgin Olive Oil
The Hype: This “very mellow,” “light” tasting oil has an almost sweet “nuttiness” and a “fruity” scent reminiscent of green olives. With just a “little bite,” this olive oil is a great option for those seeking a more mild, everyday oil.
My Take: Delicious! Because we received some tiny packets, and I wanted to really taste the flavor, I made an herb oil for dipping bread. It tasted fresh and wonderful, and supporting an American company is a bonus.
Dorval Sour Power Straws
The Hype: Sour Power has the taste that kids (and kids of all ages) love! Since 1985, Sour Power® has been offering a variety of shapes, packages, and mouth-watering flavor varieties that people can’t seem to get enough of!
My Take: As I’ve mentioned all over my blog, we don’t do food coloring, so I was kind of bummed to see these in my box. We received both pink lemonade and blue raspberry, but I cannot comment on them as they went in the trash.
