I’ve been out of the reviewing loop lately. Heck, I fell out of the blogging loop for awhile with all this house stuff going on, but I’m back into my groove and I’m really excited to share this latest review with everyone! I was lucky enough to receive not one, not two, but THREE months of this awesome subscription box, so stay tuned for March and April in separate posts.
Goodebox is a members only service providing expertly curated, trial sized healthy, eco-sensitive & effective beauty and personal care products, along with occasional samples of natural & organic health and wellness products. The cost for this service is $18 a month, and the 5-6 sample products you receive are based on a member profile with your preferences. There is only a set pool of items each month, so it’s possible you will receive something you didn’t necessarily have on your list.
The best thing out of the Goodebox experience is knowing that Goodebox only works with thoroughly evaluated, mission based brands committed to cleaner, healthier, more sustainable products.
So, what did I get in the February Goodebox?
Shave with Benefits - Shave Foam ($18.95)
The Hype: Shave with Benefits is a luxurious botanical shaving foam that goes on easily, conditions you skin, and provides a close, smooth shave for all types and textures… no matter how sensitive. Available in Bergamot + Pink Grapefruit, Mint+Eucalyptus and Pomegranate+Mango. (Vegan)
My Take: I received Bergamot + Pink Grapefruit. It’s great that a company is cruelty-free and uses organic materials. That being said, I wasn’t totally wow’d by this product. While it smelled okay, I wasn’t bowled over by the scent. It wasn’t UNpleasant, just.. meh. Also, I’m not sure I would go so far as to refer to it as “luxurious” foam - I’m pretty sure I can get more lather out of bar soap. Would I spend the full price on it? Gracious no, but it wasn’t terrible to try.
The Hype: Inspire yourself with detoxifying lemongrass essential oils blended with organic botanicals for a fresh and uplifting scent. (Vegan)
My Take: I received the “Thai Lemongrass” scent, and it was just pure lovely. Ok, I’ll admit, it did smell a little like Lemon Pledge, but… I kind of dig that scent. It smells clean and wonderful. I put this on after my shower, because frankly the Man was not interested in giving me a massage in the name of product reviews. It sealed in the moisture from my shower and left my skin feeling soft and refreshed. The reason I could only give it 4 out of 5 stars is the cost — $6 for one ounce.. just seems like a lot to me. Especially when I’d want to rub it on my 2000 parts after every shower. Obviously everyone has a different budget.
Sumbody - Bath Melt ($5.50)
The Hype: These small squares are packed full of moisture that will hydrate and soothe all skin types. These all-natural bath treats are full of rich butters that moisturize your skin so that you feel soft and smooth. Available in Get Lei’d, Knock Out, Milky Rich, Stress Relief. (All except Milky Rich are vegan).
My Take: Ok, so I’m a little bit confused by what I received because the Breathe (open & clear sinuses) was not available for purchase on their site at the time of this review. Which makes me incredibly sad for those of you who can’t experience this first hand. I have one of those lovely facial steamers — you know, the ones that look slightly like a medieval torture device you stick your face in. I think probably you’re not supposed to put anything in the water when you use it, but I’m a rebel, so I broke my bath melt into quarters and swirled a piece into my steamer. WHOOOO. My sinuses were alive with the sound of music. LOVE.
Sumbody - Bath Salts ($39-45)
The Hype: Not only will Sumbody’s bath salts relieve stress, relax and unwind your mind, they also combat a number of common skin, muscle and health issues. (Available in over 20 scents - many scents are vegan.)
My Take: I received Let My Muscles Go (which contained fun things like Saint John`s Wort, Passion Flower, Skull Cap, and Vervain… I won’t have to worry about a Salvatore brother chowing down on me). I kind of love this forever. Maybe it was total power of suggestion, but I could feel the stress just floating away in the tub. I’m sure my Ativan had nothing to do with it… but either way, I could get used to this kind of unwinding. They smell AMAZING, and are made up of so many lovely things instead of weird unpronounceable chemicals.
Detox RX - Cell-U Firm Body Gel ($39.95
The Hype: Smooth out the look of cellulite’s spongy “orange peel” look with this specially concentrated gel. Caffeine, Niacin, Horse Chestnut and an incredible blend of 12 potent essential oils renew skin at the cellular level for a smoother, firmer appearance. Fast-absorbing formula helps reduce fatty deposits and excess water retention on thighs, arms and midsection. (Vegan)
My Take: This made my thighs tingle. I honestly don’t have much more to say about it. I would think this is one of those products that you have to use over time, and a tiny sample size just isn’t going to do it. I’m sure the company means well, but this just didn’t translate well as a sample size.On top of it, I’m leery of creams and potions that claim things like this. Also, my butt does not need to be caffeinated. Just go to the gym, okay?
