I was lucky enough to be contacted by the lovely folks over at Derma MD, and sent a great product suite to review. You all know how I’m brutally honest about my skincare products, so how did Derma MD fare?
Everyone’s skin type is different and so are their issues and needs. For a LINE to be effective, it must have several active ingredients to provide all the following: ingredients to deep pore cleanse, moisturizing and hydrating ingredients to maintain and increase moisture, antioxidants to protect from free radical damage, peptides to build new collagen, vitamins and mineral to feed and nourish, exfoliating and rejuvenating ingredients to increase cellular turnover and improve texture and skin tone, as well as an array of specialty ingredients to target specific needs or issues. Derma MD contains them all.
Enzymatic Cleanser $34.95
The Hype: The mild enzymes of pineapple and papaya combined with chamomile and additional plant extracts, will gently digest dead skin cells leaving it soft, hydrated and feeling fresh. Enzymes are non-abrasive to the skin. Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive.
My Take: Love this! It lathers beautifully and left my skin feeling soft and healthy, not tight and dry like so many other cleansers do. Even with sensitive skin, I had no lingering dryness from a week of daily use. It didn’t make my skin burn or tingle, just feel clean clean clean!
Vitamin C Milk Collagen Booster $129
The Hype: Combination of multiple super antioxidants, pycnogeol, resveratrol, and ascorbyl palmitate work synergistically to reduce inflammation, improve appearance of broken capillaries, inhibit collagen degradation and increase firmness, leaving skin with a more improved youthful, younger looking glow. Additional ingredients will hydrate skin, leaving it soft and protected.
My Take: This was a pretty good serum, but it didn’t seem to fully absorb the way I would like. It was fine when I was just hanging around, but when I started to do a little heavy lifting around the house and broke a sweat, it made my face feel kind of icky. I’m not 100% sure how to describe it, but it was like it sat on top of my skin. I’m not sure how this would affect a makeup application on top of it, so I’m knocking one star off. Perhaps it would be better in colder weather?
Intense Healing Soy (Body) Moisturizer $52
The Hype: This smooth creamy formulation is combined with multiple antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Soy bean oil helps to reduce inflammation, shea butter, olive oil, and rose hips seed oil will increase moisture retention, and additional conditioning ingredients such as algae will help to hydrate. Skin will be softer, less red and smoother. Excellent when used on broken fissures in heels, and callouses to increase smoothness and hydration. Also can be used after various non-invasive cosmetic procedures to keep skin and moist.
My Take: LOVE. I have the grossest feet because I never wear shoes. I can literally extinguish a cigarette butt with my bare feet and not feel a thing. Sexy right? I thought I’d give this a whirl on my tootsies, and my elbows. It worked wonders on both! I think I might even work up the nerve to go for that girls night with friends, because I am no longer anxious about someone giving me a pedicure. This probably would have worked fantastically on my post-surgical dry skin when I had my knee surgery as well. Have you SEEN a leg that has been in an immobilizer for eight weeks?
Uplifting - Firming Night Creme $89
The Hype: This product is formulated to provide hydration, firming, tightening and reduce appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Peptide technology of palmitoyl oligopeptide, and Syn-Coll™ boosts collagen synthesis, while alpha lipoic acid and DMAE complex work synergistically to give a lifting and tightening effect. Neck and Face will appear younger looking within days.
My Take: Apparently, night cream is very important. At night, when all of your body systems are at rest, they are doing most of their repairing and rejuvenating. I never knew this was actually a real science-y thing. I always thought it was just hype to get your money on an extra jar of expensive face cream. NOT SO PEOPLE, not so. While I don’t have a ton of wrinkles yet, I’m sure every preventative measure helps. I found after a week, my forehead lines looked smoother (teach your children not to scowl all the time, or this will be them!) and my face just felt fresher. This one is definitely a keeper.
Lip Plump “Golden Goddiss” $25.95
The Hype: A revolutionary lip formulation that will increase volume of lips, reduce lip lines, hydrate and protect from sun damaging rays. Encapsulated hyaluronic acid spheres keep lips hydrated and moist, while peptides increase collagen to provide fullness to lips. This smooth, non-sticky formulation will glide on and can be used alone or on top of one’s own lipstick…Non-sticky, Non-drying and contains no alcohol!
My Take: This lip plump was actually pretty awesome. Honestly, I looked at the color and kind of groaned because I am NOT a shimmery gold kind of gal. However, it came out more shiny, not glittery. As promised, it was non-sticky, but it did tingle (which was not completely unwelcome - it was nostalgic of the great Lip Venom craze in the 90’s) The only downside was the menthol kind of smelled like Tiger Balm, which is not one of my favorite scents.
